Aboard the tall ship Picton Castle, crew have no internet access for weeks at a time, which is part of the appeal of a voyage for many. How can the ship convey online what happens at sea to potential clients, families of crew and alumni without affecting the real-life experience aboard?

About Maggie Ostler

Back in 2005, when she was a completely inexperienced sailor, Maggie Ostler signed aboard the tall ship Picton Castle as a trainee crew member for a year-long voyage around the world. Since then, she has sailed 50,000+ nautical miles, spent two and a half years at sea, and now works as the Chief Operations Officer of Windward Isles Sailing Ship Company, based in Lunenburg, which owns and operates the Picton Castle. In a business where all staff wear multiple hats, one of Maggie’s many responsibilities is to manage Picton Castle’s online presence.
